Eared Dove is a very common species which, in some areas, forms enormous flocks sometimes numbering over 1 million birds, making it a serious crop pest in those areas. It is distributed throughout the whole of South America where its prefered habitat is arid and semi-arid scrubland.
It has a number of different aliases and is variously know as Violet-eared Dove, Blue-eared Dove, Bronze-necked Dove, Gold-necked Dove and Torpedo Dove.
